The ETA Process & How it Works

How do I sign up/get started?
Please fill out the Discovery Form - Start by completing our Discovery Form so we can match you with the best tax package for your needs. You can also start with a referral or inquiry - Whether through your financial advisor or directly with us.
We will then send off a confirmation on your pricing, and an engagement letter.
From there we will send an intake form to gather all your information.
We will then collect all documents digitally through our secure client portal.
All filings are digital, and communication is through email or the client portal.
At the end of the process you will receive a dedicated Loom video from your reviewer outlining the return.
We will then file on your behalf.

What documents do I need to provide?
All relevant tax documents, including but not limited to:
T4, T5, and other income slips
Business income and expenses (if applicable)
Investment statements
Foreign income details
Rental income/expenses
RRSP contributions
Medical expense receipts
Charitable donation receipts
Any additional documentation requested

How long will it take to complete my return?
Exact dates are not guaranteed, but we aim to complete all returns within two weeks of all documents being submitted through Financial Cents. If documents are submitted later, or we require more information to file, the deadline may be extended.

Can I track the progress of my return?
We will send you updates (via email) along the way to keep you updated, and informed.

What if I need to make changes after my return is filed?
You get to review the final tax return before it is submitted and let us know if it needs any changes.

Who do you work best with?
We provide expert tax services for individuals, including those with investment or rental income, and sole proprietors. Our services are available across Canada, with the exception of Quebec.
Pricing and Packages

What are your different pricing packages?
Tier 1 - Basic Tax Return
Tier 2 - Mid-Tier Tax Return - all Tier 1 inclusion plus [additional services]
Tier 3 - Complex Return - all Tier 2 inclusions plus [additional services]

How much will it cost to file my taxes?
Depending on the package you select, the price ranges between $400 to $1000+.

Are there any hidden fees?
Transparent, fixed pricing - No surprises. Any services that fall out of scope will be discussed and re-priced as they arise.

What payment methods do you accept?
We accept direct bank transfers, and all major credit cards.

What if I need to file multiple returns (e.g., for myself and my spouse)?
Our prices are set per household, so your spouse, and dependants are covered under one pricing plan.

How will I be billed?
We do a 50% invoice up front before the work begins, and the rest before the return is filed.

Why is your pricing per household?
Because we believe in a holistic approach to tax preparation. By considering the combined income, deductions, and credits of all household members, we can ensure that you receive the maximum benefits and optimize your overall tax situation. This approach allows us to accurately capture various credits and incentives, such as:
Spousal or common-law partner amounts
Eligible dependant amounts
Caregiver credits

Transfers of tuition amounts

What is Financial Cents?
It is the software ETA will be using to contact our clients and where they will be securely uploading their documents.

What is TaxCycle?
It is the software that we ETA is using to file your tax returns.

What is the deadline to file my T1 return?
April 30, 2025, for sole proprietors June 15th, 2025.

What happens if I miss the filing deadline?
You will be subject to interest and penalties.

How can I contact you if I have questions?

To ensure we can thoroughly address your questions and assign the best member of our team to assist you, we primarily communicate via email, and through our virtual portal, Financial Cents. This allows us to fully research your inquiry and provide you with the most accurate and comprehensive response.

What are your hours of operation?
Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm AST.

Can I meet with a tax preparer in person?
No, we are fully virtual, and operate best over email, and recorded video.

How quickly can I expect a response to my inquiry?
We aim to get back to all client requests within 24 hours.

Do you offer any resources or guides to help me understand Canadian taxes?
We will have blog posts, additional information, and certified tax experts virtually that will help answer any questions.

Can I drop off documents in person?
No, we take documents virtually only through Financial Cents.

How do you ensure the privacy and security of my information?
All sensitive client documents must be uploaded and stored in Financial Cents, and TaxCycle. Sharing client information via email is prohibited unless using an authorized Evangeline Tax email and this ensures that client information stays confidential and secured.

Additional Services

Can you help me with past tax returns?
Yes we can assist with the prior year tax returns, multiple years may increase the overall cost of your services.

Do you offer bookkeeping or accounting services?
We do NOT offer bookkeeping or ongoing accounting services.

Can you represent me in case of a CRA audit?
We CANNOT represent you but we could offer some guidance in the case of a CRA audit.

Can you help me with estate planning or taxes related to inheritance?
We can offer guidance, but these additional services may increase the cost of your services.

Do you offer any assistance with tax debt or payment arrangements with the CRA?
We offer guidance with tax installments should the need arise.

Can you help me set up a corporation or partnership?
We only offer tax filing services.

Do you offer virtual appointments or video conferencing?
We do not offer appointments or meetings virtually or online. We are a tax preparation company, and do not function as an ongoing accounting service.

Who reviews and signs off on my return?
A Certified CPA will review your return and sign off on it.

Will you assist with payment to CRA?
We only provide guidance on the amount owned and directions to pay it.

How can I provide feedback?
We always ask you for feedback throughout the whole process and at the end of our services.

Will my feedback be anonymous? How is it used?
Yes it will be anonymous unless you give us permission to share a testimonial on our channels.

Do you do corporate tax returns?
No we do not.
